Week One - Playoff Forecast

Ok. I have been asked several times, who I think will be in the playoffs this year?

Here are my picks.

AFC:
Ravens - 1st seed
Colts - 2nd seed
Patriots - 3rd seed
Raiders - 4th seed

AFC Wild Cards:
Titans
Jets

Now I am sure that a lot of people will question my reasoning. So here is a little insight into why I picked these teams and why some were left out.

The Ravens, maybe one of the most improved teams of the year with the addition of their newly acquired receivers and their already strong defense I look for them to take the AFC.

The Colts...all I need to say is Payton Manning. Personally, I don't like him. I think he is annoying but I have to admit that he is like a machine on the field. The man is maybe the most accurate passer of all time.

The Patriots. Well, this a team of weapons from Welker to Moss, from Brady to Taylor. I was under the impression that their young defense may be a concern. I changed my tune after watching their first game of the year.

The Raiders? Really. I picked the Raiders. Well, the truth to be told is that the AFC West has been and continues to be one of the worst divisions in the league. I do not see any of these teams doing very well. I think that Oakland and possibly Kansas City have the best chances of making something out of this year.

The Titans and the Jets will both have better records than the AFC West division champ. If the Titans were more consistent, I would actually put them above the Colts. But they continue to have issues on both Offense and Defense. The Jets look good. They even sound tougher. I don't really know what to expect from they so they are my true Wild Card.

What about the Chargers? The Chargers made several mistakes ever since Norv Turner showed up. The main one being on the trading of Drew Bres for...oh what's his name...you know that guy who cries all the time...oh well however their quarterback is. Recently they lost majority of their great players and replaced them with younger inexperienced players.

NFC:
Packers - 1st seed
Saints - 2nd seed
Eagles - 3rd seed
Cardinals - 4th seed

NFC Wild Cards:
Giants
Redskins

The Packers. Well, I can't stand the Packers. I hate them with every fiber in my body. I hate their owner. I hate their quarterback. And, I can't stand their consistency in the the playoffs. Year after year the Packers continue to impress, Favre, Rogers, whoever...they are in the playoffs. Enough about my hatred. Rogers is impressive to say the least and I am quite sure that they will win the 1st seed due to their schedule. I think the Packers have a lighter schedule than the Saints and they are strong both on defense and offense.

The Saints. The Saints are a great team composed of many talented players and an amazing coach. Enough said.

The Eagles may win the rest of their games due to the Vick factor. Their offensive line is weak and needs improvement but it will not matter if Vick is at the helm.

The Cardinals are an interesting team. I still do not understand why you would trade Boldin. But it doesn't really matter. Their division is so weak that the Raiders could produce wins in that division.

I was on the fence about the Giants. I am not sure what they will do this year. As a matter of fact, they looked really bad this first game of the season. lil' Manning produces good plays so I am basing this off intuition.

The Redskins may beat out the Eagles depending on what the Eagles do. McNabb is a superior quarterback with some amazing talent around him. I look at the NFC East as one of the most competitive divisions this year.

What about the boys? The Cowboys played the other night and after the game I spent the rest of the night airing out the house. I will not allow that kind of crap to be played on my television. Jones, here is a piece of advice...DROP YOUR QUARTERBACK.

Anyone think they can do better? I challenge anyone to give me their predictions and the reasons why.

  2. Did I say something unfavorable about your team? Let me guess...you are a Cowboys fan and you have a poster of Tony Romo on your wall. Sorry bro...he sucks.

  3. "The Packers. Well, I can't stand the Packers. I hate them with every fiber in my body. I HATE THEIR OWNER." This should stand as a true testimony of your superior knowledge of the NFL. Your comments became irrelevant by this ignorant statement.

  4. Ignorance in sports is very common, mainly because opinions are subjective. Results are hard to predict, and people often confuse facts with opinion. But here are two facts:
    1) The Packers don't have any owner
    2) If you don't know that, I can tell you ignorance level is higher than my threshold. I won't ever be back to this blog.

  5. Very good point gentle men. The comment I made about the Packers ownership was not directed to a particular person but rather how it is held as a public entity and not a traditional owner. I hate the fact that you can not associate a name with the team. i.e. Raiders = Al Davis. Cowboys = Jerry Jones. Why must we all live in this shroud of mystery when it comes to the Packers organization. Who makes the calls? Who is the one to blame? The faceless organization can't be blamed for anything. Ted Thompson is who we go after but I don't believe that he is the one to blame.

  6. So you hate the Packers because you don't know who to blame...for what?? The Packers are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, and the only one that is publicly owned. There is no mystery, no conspiracy. You may have many reasons to dislike them but you have chosen the lamest reason ever!

  7. Dennis...are you a Packers fan?

Yes, my hatred for the Packers goes well beyond the (what I called) ownership of the team. I believe that all teams should have a face. I think that it is important for a team to have that ownership/face. As far as the Packers are concerned, the Packers continue to "pack" the house and continue to do well year after year.

At this current point in time, yes...it doesn't matter because there is no problems. However, when Favre was traded to the Jets several Packers fans wanted to blame Ted Thompson. Thompson and Favre had several issues in the past yet he was not the demise of Brett Favre. It was the consortium, which ultimately ruled Favre out of Green Bay. Ted Thompson serves as the face of the Packers organization but it is a ruse. Thompson doesn't make the decisions he is ultimately the man who states the fate of the organization.

But the ownership was only one of the many reason that I gave to why I hate the Packers. I can't stand them for many reasons but I also give credit where credit is due. The Packers are a force and they continue to impress year after year. I have a great deal of respect for the Packer organization. I just don't like them. To say that I have "chosen the lamest reason ever" to hate the Packers is quite humorous because you chose the lamest reason that I gave to hate the Packers.

  8. Having read the blog, Commish, I have to say you have never brought new evidence to defend yourself against some of the points from Dennis8437. You haven't thoroughly described why your trying to find a face to "blame" in the Packers organization. I believe the reason you wish to blame is because as you state "The Packers are a force and they continue to impress year after year.", is there a bit of jealousy hidden in that comment? I am sensing a Bears fan. Unfortunately, your profile states that your favorite team will remain disclosed, which I believe you mean undisclosed. On another note, I dislike a lot of things but I never say something as strong as the word hate without a concise, fact based answer. So please can you explain your "hatred" and "blame" for the Pack being a bit more concise.

  9. Sean - absolutely. I stated that in my original post: "I can't stand their consistency in the playoffs." The Packers have consistantly managed to end up in the playoffs and one of my biggest annoyance in the NFL are the teams that are coined as being a "dynasty."

I may or may not be a Bears fan. I can honestly say that if you ever did know what team I am a fan of you would probably wonder why and then laugh yourself to death.

Originally, I stated "The Packers. Well, I can't stand the Packers. I hate them with every fiber in my body. I hate their owner. I hate their quarterback. And, I can't stand their consistency in the the playoffs. Year after year the Packers continue to impress, Favre, Rogers, whoever...they are in the playoffs." Yes, majority of my hatred is based on jealously.

Rogers has continued to impress me week after week and I have a great deal of respect for Rogers. He has managed to overcome the shadow of Brett Favre and that is a feat in itself. Why do I hate him? He has managed to penetrate defenses that I once thought were impenetrable. He has easily captured the Packer fan base with the departure of Favre. However, like many quarterbacks in this league I have to wonder if Rogers would be a great quarterback in this league if he didn't have the weapons that he has in Green Bay. Now with Ryan Grant out a lot more pressure will be on him to make plays.

Why does an NFL team needs a face? All the great teams have someone you can associate with being the captain of the team. Jerry Jones love him or hate him but he is the Cowboys. Al Davis love him or hate him he is the Raiders. Dan Snyder love him or hate him but he is the Redskins. This is the NFL with the exception of the Packers and a few other NFL teams.

Don't be mad that I don't like the Packers. I think that I will always stay consistent in picking teams and I will attempt to never use my opinions to judge a game. Hell, I picked the Packers for the Number One seed. At this point, I would have to say that it was a very logical guess and that it was very accurate pick.

Majority of my hate comes from their consistency in the in playoffs. Like all NFL teams I wish them all the luck in the world.

  10. To set the record straight, not only am I a GB fan, I am an owner! Can you say that about your team? It is my face that you can hate. You can hate the Packers because of their players, or their stadium or even because they beat your team. These are subjective issues and can be held as opinions of football. But to hate them because they are a publicly owned team doesn't address football issues. I can see that this thread is spinning out of control and all I want point out that when you state facts (Packers ownership) that there will be push-back if those facts are wrong. I can appreciate that you don't like the Pack, and your reasons may be numerous, but please keep them pertinent.

  11. Dennis

You make the Packers sound like a hair club.

Obviously, I have created a bit of a stir with the cheese head fans because of my personal dislike of the Packers and their organization. If I were an Eagles fan and someone said, "I hate the Eagles." I would say, "Well, so what...so do a lot of people." Unlike the Packers fans that are on here...who are like a bunch of Jehovah's witnesses who are attempting to convert me into their organization. My hatred is for many reasons as I stated before and I believe that all of those reasons are pertinent.

On this blog, I will state the facts and make sure that my personal hatred is not expressed in predicting the outcome of a game or a season through the sheer talent of that team.

Dennis great dialog. I have really enjoyed you, Andrew and Sean for all of your comments. I can tell that you are a football enthusiast and I love to hear more from you. I look forward to many more conversations.
